American billionaire believes he can visit the Titanic safely 1 year after submersible deaths
Larry Connor is an American billionaire explorer famous for his very brave trips and expeditions. He will be accompanied by Patrick Lahey of Triton Submarines in what has been described as one of the longest visits to a Titanic wreckage site.
The two business personalities are expected to begin their expedition in 2026 to where the remains of the historic Titanic lie deep in the ocean. He says this at every single point in this journey while emphasizing safety above all, after the implosion that occurred undersea back in 2018 of the submersible Oceangate. He is fully aware of the hazards involved with this and tries to make sure that all things are safe for people on board.
Third-party certification of their submarine by Connor and Lahey is another measure in terms of safety. A pretty important phase for further investigation and assurance for those going into the mission. In this respect, the Oceangate Titan submersible was already raising red flags before its tragic implosion this June 2023, while trying to reach the wreck of the Titanic. Just a few examples from history itself show how fragile deep-sea exploration may get; therefore, in their way, these are considerable safety measures.
Successes include the record dive made in 2020 to the Challenger Deep, the deepest known point in the Earth’s oceans. It is out of this wealth of experience that confidence in Lahey’s capability to handle challenges brought forth by deep underwater exploration is nurtured.
Meanwhile, St. John’s adventurer and entrepreneur Larry Daley – who in the past has partnered with Lahey on expeditions – says their team has a unique system of checks and balances. He compares them to NASA, suggesting such attention to detail – and an approach to safety that he believes will serve them well on their upcoming mission.
