A new TV app on Elon Musk’s X/Twitter is devoted to watching videos.

Elon Musk is determined to position X as a competitor to YouTube. He has personally reached out to MrBeast, the most prominent star on YouTube, urging him to share full-length videos on the platform previously known as Twitter. Earlier this year, Linda Yaccarino, the CEO of X, asserted that the medium is evolving into a “video first” service.

In line with this transition, X is launching a dedicated smart TV application specifically designed for viewing videos shared on the platform.

Musk announced on X on Monday night, “The beta version of X TV is now available.”

X TV: Musk’s video initiative

The initial public version of the X app for television has been released, and users can download it from the smart TV sections of Google Play, Amazon’s app store, and LG’s app store. However, the X TV app has yet to be made available for Apple TV or the Apple App Store for tvOS.

As per the facts of the X TV app, users will have the ability to explore videos uploaded to X and access live streams on the platform. To utilize the TV app, users must log in to their X accounts.

Previously, the only method to view X’s video content on a television was by casting from a secondary device, such as an iPhone or Android smartphone.

Elon Musk envisions X as a multifaceted platform, aspiring to transform it from a social media site into a comprehensive banking application. The company remains committed to its purpose of evolving the platform previously known as Twitter into an “everything” app.

While X users currently share videos, the introduction of X TV aligns closely with the platform’s existing functionalities. Nevertheless, it appears that most users engage with videos on X casually, as they scroll through their feeds. Therefore, it will be intriguing to observe whether the X TV app effectively alters user behavior or merely reinforces existing patterns.
