Elon Musk has shared that xAI’s Grok 3 chatbot, which he affectionately calls the “smartest AI on Earth,” will be formally launched on Monday with a live demonstration at 8 p.m. PT.
Although Musk originally indicated that the product would be released in a week or two, he felt it was best to accelerate the launch. At a Dubai event, he signaled that Grok 3 is highly capable and that in preliminary tests, it has been “outperforming anything that has been released before.” It has been referred to by Musk as “scary smart.”
Grok 3 has been trained with synthetic data, which enables logical consistency while parsing this data. Musk emphasized that the chatbot has impressive reasoning abilities. This comes soon after the release of DeepSeek R1, the leading AI model by a Chinese startup. The report alleges that the models have reasoning or problem-solving skills equivalent to other prominent U.S. models, which include OpenAI’s o1 model, at a fraction of the price.
Founded by Musk in 2023, xAI launched its Grok 2 language model in August 2024. Three employees of xAI, as they spoke to Business Insider, indicated the company, with an extremely ambitious growth plan, plans to rapidly expand its workforce to hire thousands of fresh positions this year to assist in training its chatbot.
