After a brief trial period, Threads launches its own feeds tool.

Threads launches its custom feeds tool following a quick testing phase.

Threads has introduced an interesting new feature allowing users to create and use customized feeds with an intention to improve its competitive position against Bluesky, which has already incorporated this feature into its functionality. The updated app allows users to add and curate subject-based feeds on the home screen.

This is an important feature as it allows users to view and navigate detailed feeds that cater to their specific preferences which unlike the main feed, ‘for you’ is not algorithm based. This is especially important since a number of users have discovered that Threads’ current ‘for you’ algorithm is manipulatable. For instance, posts inquiring “who likes cats” would alter the content in that fee.

In order to generate a personalized content feed, the users can conduct a simple search for certain topics of interest and pick the options from the menu. In reality, Threads’ veterans can set up to 128 custom feeds for one’s content, which makes it very flexible in terms of how the content is consumed.

When it comes to making a custom feed, Threads is more advantageous than Bluesky. While it takes about two seconds to create a custom feed on Bluesky, with Threads’ richer options, it is much easier for users to modify their custom feed. Despite this, we see that Bluesky is growing, there are new people coming in, but it is still small in relation to Threads. According to reports, Threads has over 275 million users and is gaining an average of approximately one million new users every day. The current number of users is an indication of how well Threads is doing and how well it’s customizable features are not surprising to those seeking for activities like this.
