Almost all of Netflix’s interactive titles are being removed.

Netflix is eliminating almost all of its interactive titles.

The company intends to pull nearly all of its interactive shows and movies from its service starting on December 1st. Currently, it has 24 titles on its “Interactive Specials” page, but with this move, it will be taking all but four off the service at the end.

The only titles to survive will be Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, Unbreakable. Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend, Ranveer vs. Wild with Bear Grylls, and You vs. Wild. This is a sad ending to Netflix’s early interactive content, which began in 2017 with the release of Puss in Book: Trapped in an Epic Tale. In addition to the interactive titles released as main events, Netflix developed ideas such as a daily trivia series and one that offered a trivia game with which one could compete against friends.

But the small number of titles on offer at the moment suggests that viewers did not quite take to these formats.

This latest move, axing many of those shows, comes hot on the heels of an announcement by Mike Verdu, former head of Netflix gaming, that it wouldn’t be pursuing new interactive titles. Part of a larger trend evidencing Netflix struggles to stake a serious claim to chunk gaming market share.

Just recently, the company shut down its AAA game studio before it was able to release any games, and a beta test of its game streaming that began more than a year ago is still ongoing. These beacons add to the evidence of how hard it has been for Netflix in trying to find its place in both the gaming and interactive content markets.
