Analyst Says: The Demand for the iPhone 16 Pro Has Been Lower Than Anticipated

iPhone 16 Pro Demand Has Been Lower Than Expected, Analyst Says

Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst specializing in Apple products, reported that the demand for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max has not met expectations since the pre-order period commenced in the United States and several other nations on Friday.

According to Kuo, his insights are derived from a comprehensive supply chain analysis and shipping projections available on Apple’s official online platform.

The analyst’s findings suggest a potential decline in consumer interest in these latest iPhone models.

Kuo’s assessment highlights the importance of monitoring market trends and consumer behavior in the technology sector.

The lower-than-anticipated demand may have implications for Apple’s sales forecasts and inventory management strategies.

Kuo projected that approximately 37 million units of all four iPhone 16 models were sold during the initial weekend following the commencement of pre-orders, reflecting a nearly 13% decrease compared to the first weekend sales of the iPhone 15 series from the previous year.

The analyst identified diminished demand for the Pro models as a significant contributor to this decline, with estimated first-weekend sales for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max dropping by 27% and 16%, respectively, in comparison to their iPhone 15 counterparts during the same timeframe last year.

Although the typical iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus experienced greater demand than the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus during their launch weekend, this growth was insufficient to counterbalance the reduced interest in the Pro models, as noted by Kuo.

Kuo attributed the lower-than-anticipated demand for the iPhone 16 Pro models primarily to the absence of Apple Intelligence features at launch, which are scheduled to be introduced with iOS 18.1 in October.

Furthermore, the analyst highlighted that the iPhone is encountering “intense competition” in the Chinese market, which may be impacting its sales performance.
