Apple Intelligence: Verified Release Date for the First iPhone AI Features

Apple Intelligence: First iPhone AI Features Release Date Confirmed

Those waiting with bated breath for Apple Intelligence to strike their iPhones will have to wait a little bit longer. In a report just released, it has been stated that the first set of generative AI features, affiliated with the iOS 18.1 update, will finally be available for compatible iPhones at the end of October, rather than the second week.

Apple announced the iPhone 16 in September of this year, releasing iOS 18 sans Apple Intelligence. To date, the company has only said that the first AI tools will arrive with iOS 18.1, but it has not provided a release date for those tools.

Mark Gurman at Bloomberg, in his newsletter Power On, says Apple will make this firmware available from October 28th – over a month after the release of the iPhone 16 series and iOS 18.

Gurman explained that the reason for the delay is that Apple’s still ironing out these features in AI to reduce bugs and make sure its servers can handle the expected traffic. So, what are the first Apple Intelligence features coming?

Apple Intelligence in iOS 18.1 Developers and beta testers now have access to Apple Intelligence, so public users can look forward to similar features:.

Writing Tools

The update will come with Writing Tools, integrated into messaging apps like Messages and Mail. These include AI-powered rewriting, reformatting in several styles, proofreading, and summarizing, coupled with a Smart Replies option that will quickly suggest responses for certain messages.

Photos Cleanup

The Photos app will finally receive the Clean Up tool, which will allow the users to enhance their photos with just a few clicks. It will do so by removing unwanted objects with the help of AI. Another handy novelty is going to be the ability to perform natural language searches, which will make the queries for specified keywords possible.

Reduced Interruptions and Focus Modes

Introduce a new AI-powered focus mode called Reduced Interruptions. This is going to show just the urgent notifications from messages and apps in this mode. If it’s turned on, a “Reduced Interruptions” label will appear on the lock screen.

In addition to this mode, the Intelligent Breakthrough & Silencing toggle can apply the same filtering to other modes. The On setting enables it to function like Reduced Interruptions, but specific to the selected mode.

Updates to Siri iOS 18.1 will bring with it a facelift for Siri. Once the assistant is activated, it would display a flowery and animated outline on the display screen. However, these new contextual features in Siri will not form part of this refresh.

Interested users can sign up for the Apple Public Beta Program, which offers immediate access to iOS 18.1, though one should be prepared to find bugs aplenty. It should also be noted that Apple Intelligence is only available on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 models.
