Apple will never stop thinking about making a TV
Apple will never stop considering the possibility of producing a television.
The company has been mulling over the likelihood of a television ever since the demise of its co-founder Steve Jobs in 2011. It has even taken the step of prototyping large screen versions that would function as both stand-alone televisions and touchscreen devices akin to Mac computers or iPads. Ultimately, though, Apple has put away grand television plans.
The main reason was that the profit margins for televisions are traditionally pretty thin, and to make such a device would be costly. In 2019, Apple revisited the concept of developing the television. However, it didn’t launch it but carried on developing its streaming service and the availability of its app on televisions of other manufacturers.
Right now, Apple is building its smart home devices with the wall-mounted tablet that would allow its users to experience the smart home environment. All this has led to the rethink about Apple television as a new product extension in this direction. However, Apple executives still seem to be reticent regarding developing the television market again because they may still rethink whether or not to dive back into this market because of the barriers of ongoing market dynamics and cost factors.
