ChatGPT refuses to say a specific name, and people are concerned.

ChatGPT refuses to say one specific name

ChatGPT users had recently been infected by a weird problem of AI failing to note the name “David Mayer”. Trying to convince AI either to write or recognize this name seems to generate the error message abruptly closing the ongoing chat session.

An issue like this gives birth to many discussions and worries among users who fear that perhaps such companies as OpenAI would want to censor some of their technologies. Many of the users tried lots of creative ways to trick the AI into mentioning the name “David Mayer”. There were cases where they had to use ciphers or riddles in hopes of bypassing anything that stops the chatbot from finding out the name. Unfortunately, that did not work too.

Once an exceptionally stubborn user transformed their name in the personal profile settings to “David Mayer” for the chatbot. Clever as this tactic was, upon asking ChatGPT to name their account details, the AI refused to comply, indicating that it isn’t just an end-user restriction. The chatbot itself has provided no explanations for this issue, in fact, it says it does not impose restrictions on mentioning specific names unless they fall under particular guidelines regarding privacy or copyright laws.

Several theories have arisen around the condition among the users. Some think that the glitch has a connection with David Mayer de Rothschild, the heir of the famous Rothschild fortune and a leading figure among them. He has possibly filed a request to protect his data under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which according to them is causing the peculiar behavior of the AI. Also, it has been reported by some users that other names prompt similar error outputs from ChatGPT. These include other names such as David Faber, Brian Hoods, Jonathan Turley, and Jonathan Zittrain, all of which seem to make the AI respond in the same way.
