During the Beijing half marathon, a humanoid robot was shown running

Technology a helping hand at sport events

The Yizhuang Half Marathon held in Beijing is another place that featured Tiangong, a striking first-generation humanoid robot. This amazing machine is 163 centimeters tall and weighs 43 kilograms, which also makes it the first-ever battery operated full-size humanoid robot.

The applications of Tiangong are not, however, limited to its impressive physical form; it also has numerous roles such as assisting pacers through maintaining running speeds of the runners in a consistent manner. Furthermore, it also offers management to the athletes where they are provided information feedback of the body parameters like heart rate, body temperature and air quality, in real time.

Tiangong has another important function, that is, entertaining at the time of such events. It does this through the incorporation of autonomous navigation making it an efficient even timer as it can carry out movement without assistance and scanning the environment in motion. In addition, it also deploys big data in its predictive protocols in evaluating the marathon trends and thus creating a conducive atmosphere for its participants. In case of high crowd control situations, other medical carrying for instance robots can traverse the control ribbon and assess the athletes without much disturbance.

Sofia is a useful social robot that highlights the limitations of artificial intelligence, installations such as this for humanoid robots are still in their infancy. Robots such as Tiangong for instance, lack versatility, a characteristic whereby almost all the functions ascribed to them cannot really be performed. On the other hand, four-legged robots have also been seen in marathons, even pacing at the Hangzhou Marathon, where they were also official pacers. The four-legged robots were even able to run at a constant speed of around 9 minutes 24 seconds per kilometer, indicating their effectiveness.

In China, technology in sports is becoming more and more prevalent. Now, we have digital torch bearers, smart sports gear, which is usually seen in corporate sporting events showing that there is a growing concept of technology and sports. This shift indicates the degree to which sports experiences are being techno-advantaged with possibilities of improving both enjoyment and security during the events.
