Elon Musk’s company X reportedly agreed to pay the erstwhile President Donald Trump $10 million to settle a lawsuit dating back to the time when Twitter’s owner was Jack Dorsey.

The suit stemmed from actions taken on Twitter after Trump was banned after the events of January 6, 2021, which was an assault on the Capitol by his political supporters.

After Trump had been banned, his legal team initially thought it would be prudent to let the lawsuit slip away, depending largely on how he and Musk were getting along. Not only did Musk take over Twitter in October 2021 and reinstate Trump’s account in 2022, but Musk also funneled more than $250 million into Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, thus exhibiting considerable support for Trump and his political ambitions.

Despite this burgeoning relationship between Trump and Musk, Trump ultimately filed to proceed with the settlement concerning the lawsuit. The $10 million payment represents a significant conclusion to a highly unpopular dispute that has drawn public attention in both media and political circles.
