Gemini AI Assistant May Soon Enable Calling and Message Sending From the Lockscreen

Gemini AI Assistant Could Soon Let Users Make Calls, Send Messages From Lockscreen

Google is updating its Gemini AI assistant with new features specific to Android smartphones. Among them is making calls and sending messages right from the lock screen, meaning a user doesn’t necessarily have to unlock the device to interact with the voice assistant. Details about these features were uncovered in a beta version of the Google app, version 15.42.30.28.arm64, from an APK teardown process.

With the enhancement, users will have the convenience of managing calls and messages with ease even when their phone is locked. That means, in case someone sends a message that has personal information, it can be displayed for users to see right on the lock screen. This feature is helpful to those who would want quicker access to the communications without the many steps of unlocking their devices.

But besides those messaging and calling updates, Google’s also working on the interface of its Gemini assistant. The floating text field you use to interact with the assistant from inside other apps gets a little leaner. It will have two boxes separately now, filled with options like “Ask about this page” and “Summarise this page.” They are used to make it easier and clearer for users to choose their action.

Also, it is in redesign-finally-the page of the extensions available for this Gemini AI assistant. The features will be divided into Communication, Device Control, Travel, Media, and Productivity. That would mean better and clearer navigation by users among features without confusion and finding exactly what they need.

Currently, it is not known when these newest features will launch to end-users. These added features join a growing list of expected updates the users have been long waiting for in efforts toward improving general user experience with the Gemini AI assistant.
