iOS 19 Rumors: Additional ChatGPT-Like Siri, ‘Postponed’ Features
iOS 19 is not expected to be announced until June 2025, but the software update's first major new feature has already leaked.
New information revealed from the recent Mark Gurman article published by Bloomberg is that the feature that massively upgraded Siri that will come with the next version, iOS 19, will serve as a more conversational virtual assistant.
This added capability will be powered by advanced large language models like the technology being seen in OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Hence, Siri will be sounding much more capable and intuitive because even very complex and nuanced requests can be understood and responded to more appropriately.
Apple will reveal the revamped Siri at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) slated for June, 2025. That’s right: users won’t get to try out the new version until spring of 2026 because that’s when it’ll ship with iOS 19.4. Gurman reported that several other features planned for earlier releases of iOS 19 have now been postponed to this later update.
Users are expecting iOS 18.2 to be released in December this year. This will update Siri and integrate it with ChatGPT to enrich user interaction. Moreover, as indicated by Gurman reports, another future release will likely integrate some features of Google’s Gemini. Besides these updates, iOS 18.2 will enhance capabilities to include on-screen awareness for Siri to control even better within applications along with other great improvements.
It is worth noting, however, that although the updates should be able to significantly enhance Siri’s overall functions, neither would enable the voice assistant to reproduce all capabilities of ChatGPT conversational abilities. Most likely, after the new Siri is updated, iPhone users won’t need to rely too much on outside services like ChatGPT and Gemini to provide virtual assistant capabilities in their everyday lives.
