Mark Zuckerberg makes it clear when mobile phones will be phased away and how they will be replaced: “It will be like with computers”

Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, seems to have an interesting perspective on the future of personal technology. He believes that mobile phones will, in the end, be designed to look and feel like a computer, thus calling for the development of smart glasses as the next monumental computing device.

As reported by Zuckerberg, in the coming decade of the 2030s, the active use of smartphones would become obsolete as they would be more likely to be tucked away in pockets. This behavioral change will come about as the convenience and functionality of smart glasses doing many tasks will be preferable to the use of handheld devices. 

With the changing trends of personal technology, Zuckerberg notes that other players in the industry, for example, Apple with its Vision Pro, “together with” Meta, are engaged in pioneering the development of smart eyeglasses, but not only them; many other technology companies invest in this category, showing how keen they are on smart eyeglasses. 

The expected emergence of smart glasses represents a monumental change in the interaction of people with different technologies. Rather than stretching their arms to grab a smartphone, they will wear such devices. This evolution will be a crucial technological advancement, defining smart glasses as an essential building block of the evolutionary journey of computing, which has deep implications for people’s everyday lives and how they interact with digital material.
