Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, plans to lay off a large number of employees next week, realigning its workforce. From 5 a.m. local time on Monday, notifications related to employees’ job status will be sent across the globe and the US.
There will be no layoffs of workers located in Germany, France, Italy, and the Netherlands, though. Citing specific local regulations, employees from these countries are routed an exemption.
As the company engages in workforce downsizing, it aspires to expedite the hiring process of machine learning engineers. Different memos have been launched to get existing staff to facilitate speedy hiring processes. Despite the layoffs, the company will remain open on Monday.
No more external communications will be disclosed regarding the reasons behind these decisions. Meta appears to be focusing on enhancing its machine-learning abilities; this marks a shift in its strategic priorities.
