Tesla recalls over 27,000 Cybertrucks over laggy reverse cameras

Tesla has announced a recall for the Cybertruck due to a software issue that resulted in a delayed display of the rear camera feed. This marks the fifth recall for the controversial electric vehicle since Tesla commenced customer deliveries in November of the previous year. Previous recalls have addressed problems such as malfunctioning wipers, loose trim, and stuck accelerator pedals.

As reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, this recall affects more than 27,000 Cybertrucks produced between November 13, 2023, and September 14, 2024, encompassing nearly all units manufactured to date.

Cybertrucks operating on software version 2024.32.5.2 or later may experience a situation where the reverse camera feed could remain blank for 6 to 8 seconds if the driver attempts to reverse before the vehicle has fully completed its shutdown and boot-up sequence. Federal regulations stipulate that reverse camera feeds must be visible within two seconds.

Tesla initiated this voluntary recall following an investigation and testing conducted in September, and it will provide a complimentary over-the-air software update to rectify the issue. While there have been no reported accidents or injuries related to this problem, the inherent visibility challenges of trucks and large SUVs could pose risks to pedestrians.
