Random Freezing and Restarting on the iPhone 16 Pro Due to a Bug

iPhone 16 Pro Bug Causing Random Freezing and Restarts

Reddit, the MacRumors forums, and the Apple Support Communities have all received reports about a glitch that seems to be causing unexpected restarts with some iPhone 16 models. Users are experiencing unexpected iPhone freezing followed by a reboot.

Ever since the iPhone 16 models became available in September, reports of technical issues have been cropping up, and more are still emerging this week. The owners who installed the iOS 18.0.1 update and the iOS 18.1 update both reported that neither of these two updates fixed their problems that have always persisted. As a matter of fact, many of them were still having their problems even after they had gone through updating their software.

The issue appears to strike at random times. Many users reported that the screen either freezes or gets super slow in responding to touch. Immediately after that, the iPhone instantly restarts itself, thus interrupting the user experience. In a few other instances, it has also been reported that the iPhone even restarts itself at random times when it was in StandBy mode, which infuriates users.

Indeed, most of the people who reached out to Apple within days of the release of the new iPhones received replacement devices. Unfortunately, many of those replacements also experienced the same problem, which means the device is irrelevant. Most of the complaints have been from owners of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, it may well confine itself to these Pro series.

For most people, this problem appears to occur from time to time. For some individuals, however, it’s between 10 to 20 each day – that’s a considerable interruption of the use of the device. Performing a fresh installation – without restoring from an iCloud Backup – has resolved the issue for some. Some even speculated that the problem might have to do with some bug in the iCloud system, further complicating the troubleshooting process for those affected.
