Initiated by Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, the World project is a web3 initiative developed alongside Alex Blania and his organization, Tools for Humanity.

This project aims to create innovative tools that connect various artificial intelligence agents with individuals’ identities on the internet. Formerly known as Worldcoin, World is set on blurring the line between humans and AI agents. Thus, the initiative aims to make it incredibly difficult to distinguish between the two.

In pursuit of these lofty aims, World plans to create digital tools to establish “proof of human” identity. With “proof of human” identity established on the blockchain, users would be able to be uniquely identifiable and confirm their identities securely online. This identification method would put a premium on assuring the online interaction’s safety and trust.

Tiago Sada, chief product officer of World, points out that it is crucial for a human to start transferring ‘proof of personhood’ to the AI agent. For him, the key to the success of the project will be if there comes a time when they must let an AI agent speak for them. This could set a huge trajectory for AI agents to acquire licenses that would permit them to execute actions in the names of users, which will streamline several online processes.

In addition, the World is working on expanding its authentication tools to verify digital actions attributed to a person, even if those actions did not originate from their personal accounts. While the project intends to showcase its AI tools by 2025, Sada emphasizes a definite need to determine how these tools will link AI agents with individual users.

Additionally, OpenAI partnered with companies like Uber, Instacart, and DoorDash. Their partnerships allow OpenAI’s new Operator agent to run on their platforms. It’s a major turn for online businesses that have for the most part, remained glued to serving users only within their own applications.

Altman’s ventures create a constellation of tools that shape a future with AI and OpenAI at its core. World is one of the foundational blocks for this vision, and it could change human interactions with technology on the internet.
