Siri doesn’t send your talks to advertising, says Apple.

Siri isn't sharing your conversations to advertising, according to Apple.

Apple has squashed allegations that advertisers have used recordings made by Siri to target their users. The last statement by the company explained how Siri works and collects data from users.

The explanation is thus in the backdrop of a whopping $95 million settlement reached in a lawsuit with users whose spoken interactions with Siri along with other similar cases showed that some of these recordings could have been overheard by human employees during review.

The Guardian first brought this issue to light in 2019 when it reported that human contractors sometimes have to sift through recordings of private conversations. Apple responded to this by admitting the failure, apologizing, and changing its policy. The new policy makes it clear that by default, the use of Siri in not saving audio from user interaction. If the users choose to share their recordings for the purpose of improvement, that data will be protected in the sense that it will not be shared with third parties.

But even now, reports from the settlement said that at least a few of them still felt they received ads for products connecting them to Siri. In fact, Apple states that it never keeps audio recordings of all conversations made through its assistance unless the user has specifically agreed to share such recordings so the company can improve the functionality of its assistant.

This includes a case study and investigation that began in 2018, where different apps were accused of secretly recording users’ activities on the screen without their knowledge. This created ripples regarding privacy and security across platforms. Overall, Apple has announced that it is now ready to take any further step beyond its earlier stance to clarify its position on how it handles data, and it promises to resolve issues that previously arose regarding user privacy and advertising.
