Starting February, the customers of Mercedes-Benz electric cars will have the opportunity to use thousands of Tesla’s Superchargers. This is an important step forward for the car manufacturer and electric mobility.
Mercedes-Benz will first utilize NACS-to-CCS adapters available for purchase at authorized dealerships to stream into KVA. In the future, however, Mercedes plans to include native NACS ports in their cars.
Thus, the announcement is created for Mercedes-Benz joining a threshold of companies that can now use the charging infrastructure owned by Tesla. Together with Ford, General Motors, Rivian, Volvo, Polestar, and even Nissan, company number 7 in line is formed. The NACS-to-CCS adapter it manufactured by Lectron, a recognized supplier in the electric vehicle charging industry. The adapter will retail for $185 through authorized dealerships and features a stronger interlock system for enhanced connection stability.
Mercedes-Benz will also release cars with factory-installed ports for the NACS before the end of this year. The company continues to increase EV charging solutions. This includes efforts like thousands of fast chargers in collaboration with solar firm MN8 Energy and through a joint venture called Ionna with other big automakers.
