There is a brand-new Distraction Control for Safari on iPhones from Apple. We explain what it does.

The fifth beta version of iOS 18 has been made available by Apple, and it includes several new features for the Apple operating system. Significant updates to Safari, including a new Distraction Control feature, are included in beta five.

Distraction Control lessens intrusive features on articles and web pages, such as sign-in banners and content overlays.

You may use Distraction Control to conceal static material from websites, but keep in mind that it is not an ad blocker and won’t prevent ads permanently. Ads that play automatically, like mailing banners, seem to have the option to be momentarily hidden. When it refreshes, the advertisement will appear again. It is mostly used for static content on the page.

It takes some fine-tuning to get Distraction Control just right if you want to check it out if you’re in the beta.

The option is accessible through the Page Menu by choosing ‘Hide Distracting Items.’ Next, you choose the section of the page you wish to conceal. Additionally, you may choose which static elements you wish to hide.

Apple claims that nothing is concealed that you haven’t consciously chosen.

However, because the settings are on-device, they won’t synchronize if you switch between iPhones or an iPhone and an iPad. It will require manual labor on each device.

This is something you must do for each website you visit. Therefore, in terms of real utility, your mileage may vary.

Distraction Control is included in the developer betas of Apple’s operating systems, including macOS Sequoia, iOS 18, and iPadOS 18.

Just one of the new features included in the fifth beta is Distraction Control. Additional choices include undoing unpopular updates to the Photos app for iOS users.
