Threads is investigating several ad formats for the application.

Threads Is Exploring Potential Ad Formats for the App

Meta is preparing for Thread monetization by preparing promoted posts in its Twitter-like app. When Threads ads are released, they will include a “Sponsored” marker beside the username, disclosing that it is an ad.

The posts will be promoted to relevant users in-stream, with Threads added to placement options in Meta Ads Manager. However, there is no immediate timeline for monetization.

Meta is exploring the back-end processes that will eventually power Threads ads, but it is not live-testing ads on Threads at this time. There is no immediate timeline for monetization, so while elements are being added to the back-end code, it doesn’t mean Threads ads are imminent.

Eventually, Threads will get ads, but given the prominence of ads in other social media apps, it doesn’t expect a major impact on usage. Meta may push ahead with Threads ads sooner than anticipated to make more money and cater to ad partners.

Maybe Meta will push Threads ads ahead of the holidays to drive additional income or wait until Threads reaches 500 million users before moving. As more communities migrate across from X, the momentum behind Threads also gains steam.

Meta is exploring ads on Threads, but whether they become available in weeks, months, or years remains unknown. It is unlikely that Meta will be able to hold out for another year before bringing the ads.
