TikTok and WHO Collaborate to Fight Medical Misinformation

TikTok is implementing measures to further reduce the prevalence of health misinformation on its platform by collaborating with the World Health Organization (WHO) in an enhanced fact-checking initiative. This partnership aims to strengthen the accuracy of health-related content shared on the app.

As part of this initiative, TikTok will work alongside the WHO’s “Fides” group, which consists of over 800 healthcare professionals who actively engage on social media. The primary objective of Fides is to combat the dissemination of health misinformation by providing accurate explanations and insights on significant health issues that are frequently discussed within the app.

Through this collaboration, TikTok intends to amplify the reach and influence of Fides creators, who will share informative content regarding health and scientific research. This effort is particularly crucial in light of the rising trends of misinformation observed on social media platforms since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Recent surveys indicate a concerning decline in public confidence regarding the safety of approved vaccines, underscoring the importance of initiatives aimed at promoting accurate health information.
