Touch screen problems affect the iPhone 16 Pro and previous versions.

Touch screen issues hit iPhone 16 Pro and older models

Users of iPhones, including the iPhone 16 Pro, are experiencing what seems to be a bug in iOS 18, where touches and taps are not being recognized.

The extent of this issue remains unclear; however, many users have reported that their touchscreens are failing to respond to taps, swipes, and other gestures. The problem is inconsistent, often resolving itself temporarily before reappearing.

While most reports originate from users of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, the issue is not limited to these newer models. Anecdotal evidence suggests that the root of the problem may lie within iOS 18 itself.

As highlighted by 9to5mac, it appears that the touch rejection feature in iOS 18 is overly sensitive. This feature is designed to help the device distinguish between accidental touches and intentional gestures that require a response.

There is no clear indication of how many users are impacted, and discussions on online support forums indicate that similar issues are occurring on certain iPads and even older iPhone models, such as the iPhone 14.

A user on Mastodon, Khaos Tian, has demonstrated a method to intentionally trigger the issue. Some users have specifically noted problems with the new Camera Control button, although it remains uncertain whether this is related to the broader touch recognition issue or if palm rejection is temporarily affecting that button as well.

Given that the problem seems to affect both iPads and older iPhone models, it is more likely to be a software-related issue rather than a physical defect in the iPhone 16 Pro series. A comparable issue was reported with the iPhone 12 mini in 2020, which was ultimately linked to cases and screen protectors interfering with touch sensitivity. Apple has yet to provide any official response regarding these reports.
