The introduction of the $TRUMP meme coin by President Donald Trump and his family has become a striking financial story, reportedly raising close to $100 million against significant controversy.
This cryptocurrency is branded a meme coin because it has no intrinsic value and mostly thrives on trends in internet culture. Following its launch, the coin experienced a sharp rise in value before crashing and losing about two-thirds of that value soon after
Revenue and Profits from the $TRUMP Coin
Through an extensive analysis of the blockchain companies, by January 30, it had been estimated that groups connected to the $TRUMP coin had raised trading fees between $86 million and $100 million. One of the players is CIC Digital, owned by Trump, likely getting a lion’s share of this trading revenue. However, after that point, how much of that revenue Trickled Down into the Trump family’s pockets is unknown.
Profits for Early Investors and Losses for Smaller Traders
Throughout this episode, the Trump family and a small number of early investors have profited greatly from this venture. As reported by Chainalysis, at least fifty of the largest investors making returns from the $TRUMP coin earned more than $10 million each. In contrast, an estimated 810,000 crypto wallets, the preponderance of which belonged to smaller traders, had their investments, made a crumbling dime.

The $TRUMP cryptocurrency has paved the way for a flood of similar cryptocurrencies being birthed, with over 700 copies already in circulation. Many of these imposter coins use the names of Trump or any of his family members, intending to mislead buyers. Melania Trump, the First Lady, endorsed her own $MELANIA coin, a factor that had a great influence on the price of the original $TRUMP coin. Ivanka Trump, in response, has distanced herself from an alleged meme coin named after her, even rejecting any affiliation with it and condemning its unauthorized use.
The Volatility and Ethics of Meme Coins
The launch of meme coin $TRUMP brings to the surface the volatility of the cryptocurrency market; the fact that the early investors can cash in on it heavily, while many ordinary-mallet investors may experience unbearable losses.
