Uber Will Show ‘Verified’ Badge to Drivers When a Rider Has One

Uber to Let Drivers See If Riders Have a 'Verified' Badge

Beginning today, drivers will notice blue badges on trip requests indicating that a rider has completed their verification process. According to Uber, this initiative is designed to “deter fraudulent behavior” and was developed in response to driver requests for enhanced information regarding the individuals they are picking up.

To verify riders, Uber will compare their account details with third-party databases during the registration process. In cases where verification is not successful, riders have the option to voluntarily submit a government-issued ID, such as a driver’s license, state ID, or passport, along with a live selfie to complete their verification. Uber asserts that once riders are verified, they can expect shorter estimated times of arrival and quicker pickup experiences.

Furthermore, Uber has stated that the documents submitted by riders will be encrypted and securely stored. Drivers will not have access to the verification information; they will only be able to view the rider’s first name, star rating, verification badge, and trip details. Uber emphasizes that while this process does not guarantee a rider’s identity or behavior, it serves to foster trust and accountability within their platform.
