Under the terms of the deal, OpenAI will use your posts to teach its AI.

OpenAI signs an agreement with Reddit to use your contributions to train its AI

OpenAI has made a deal to get real-time information from Reddit’s data API. This means that it can use ChatGPT and other new products to show talks from the site. It’s a deal like the one Reddit made with Google earlier this year, which was said to be worth $60 million.

As part of the deal, OpenAI’s big language models will be used to build apps and “enable Reddit to bring new AI-powered features to Redditors and mods.” Finally, OpenAI has agreed to work with Reddit to show ads.

People on Reddit have complained before about how the company’s leaders run the site, so it will be interesting to see how they respond to this news. Users shut down more than 7,000 subreddits in June 2023 because they didn’t like how Reddit changed the prices for its APIs. People were suspended after trying to delete their posts after hearing that OpenAI and the computer message board Stack Overflow were working together.

The blog post that announced the deal didn’t say how much it would cost, and neither company talked about training data either. In the deal with Google, Reddit made it clear that it would give Google “more efficient ways to train models.” This last point is different. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman indeed owns shares in Reddit, but it is also said that “This partnership was led by OpenAI’s COO and approved by its independent Board of Directors.”

It’s become one of the biggest open archives on the internet of realimportant, and always up-to-date talks between real people about anything and everything. It’s part of ChatGPT because Reddit CEO Steve Huffman believes in a connected internet and wants to help people find more of what they’re looking for and find community on Reddit.

Companies that use its data to build AI models have not always been welcome at the company. It said that Google web bots would not be able to get to the site. It was also said that OpenAI told the admins of the r/ChatGPT subreddit that using the ChatGPT logo as a show picture was against OpenAI’s copyright.
