WhatsApp set to reveal a new AR feature for video calling

Through the Google Beta Program, WhatsApp is unleashing a new expanded reality tool for video call effects and filters with its most recent version.

Currently, the new version (2.24.16.7) is restricted to beta testers exclusively.

By installing the most recent version from the Google Play Store, WhatsApp users may attempt to utilize the AR function. However, given the feature is still in the user testing phase, only a select few will be able to use it.

WhatsApp hopes to enhance the visual experience of video calling with this latest version by enabling users to apply effects and face filters during calls.

The beta testers are utilizing various augmented reality features, such as “a low-light mode” to enhance visibility in low-light conditions and “a touch-up tool” to smooth face look.

In addition to these effects, WhatsApp has released a backdrop editing tool that lets users adjust their backgrounds during video conversations by obfuscating unwanted objects.

Users may also choose to modify the backdrop using this function, which offers a variety of scenes and picture options beneath the effect.

It is anticipated that desktop users will also be able to utilize the background function, as the blurring effect will be useful for them in professional calls, interviews, and meetings.
