According to reports, YouTube is developing a new homepage that eliminates dates and view counts.
YouTube is apparently developing a new site that removes dates and view numbers.
YouTube is testing a new layout for its website that removes some useful information, such as the upload date and the view count of videos. It comes after users voiced loudly their discontent over a decision by YouTube in 2021 that removed the dislike button.
That was because most of the dislikes were a form of attack against certain videos, which seriously harmed creators. Now, this is going to be the new homepage without view counts and dates of video uploads.
This decision has, since then, received widespread criticism from the many users, who seem to believe that losing this information is a loss to neither the viewer nor the creator. According to them, it informs them about the number of views a video has received in order for them to make their choices even better on what to watch, but the date helps, too.
On the other side, the thinking is that, in fact, this change might benefit the creators themselves. This leads them to believe that too many times, viewers pass a video with any lesser view count, which goes against the views a video should naturally get and creates an unfair playing field.
This shift also comes as YouTube is experimenting with a cheaper, new version of YouTube Premium; it’s going to have limited ads but is going to be made available on all devices. This all leads to a strategy where YouTube is constantly trying to look at ways in which it can meet both the needs of viewers and creators, even if not all changes go down well with the community.
