The factor is this: the immensely publicized recent Galaxy Unpacked event from Samsung had Google’s AI ambitions openwide regarding the new Galaxy S25 series. This series, in itself, stands as a huge platform to advance the cause of Google’s prowess in AI.

Yet another feature to highlight is the power button that automatically invokes Gemini, which is Google’s AI tool, a galaxy first. But this also brings concerns about a potential mishap…when users accidentally activate Gemini while powering off or restarting their devices.

The S24 series from Samsung mounted quite a show last year, with 35 million units sold, looming ever so large over the figures put up by the S23 series. Since the S25 series is loading up with Gemini on board, Samsung devices will see more users use Google’s AI tools over Google’s own Pixel phones. Worldwide in 2023, Google sold approximately 10 million Pixel phones, which is drastically below numbers for the flagship series from Samsung.

Samsung is trying to grab as many eyeballs as possible by giving away a preorder bonus with the S25. Preorder customers will have six months of Gemini Advanced for free. While this is a good thing, it is not as good as the year-long freebie that the Pixel 9 Pro gives. Integration of Gemini with existing Samsung apps makes this more convenient for users. Users will be able to create events in Samsung Calendar, put down tasks in Samsung Reminder, or save restaurant recommendations in Samsung Notes easily with this setup.

The S25 version of Bixby stands somewhere above and apart from Gemini, preloaded on other divisions of Samsung’s universe of devices-the Galaxy W25 series. The strategy seems to suggest that Samsung is being brave enough to offer better user experience on its devices by not damaging or demonizing AI tools developed by Google. In essence, the S25 series appears to be quite a tit-for-tat choice for the two companies in a landscape littered with evolving technologies.
