Government websites in India still link to fraud sites.
Users are continuously being sent to fraud websites by Indian government websites.
At present, Indian government websites face a grave issue, as they permit the placement of forged links on their official domains. This is happening months after similar issues were reported last year by TechCrunch.
Investigation suggests that there are more than 90 links from “gov.in,” which belongs to various different Indian government departments, redirecting to sites associated with online betting and investment scams. Among those deemed affected, some stellar ones are the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and India Post.
Presence on these deceptive links at government sites carries grave risks. Because they have been indexed by search engines such as Google, ordinary users may inadvertently land on these links and stumble upon them, ultimately subjecting themselves to possible financial abuse or fraud.
Bob Diachenko, the security researcher, believes that the problem could be a result of a vulnerability found either in the content management system of the site or in the existing server configuration. This indicates a possible breach within the underlying technology which the websites support for bad actors’ exploitation. Hence, these government websites stay vulnerable to scams and dangerously put the public at risk without proper safeguards against them.
