Google’s Gemini AI is now capable of taking notes during your Meet video conferences.

The feature should slot well into the Google ecosystem. Assuming it works.

Google Meet is introducing a new artificial intelligence tool named “Take Notes for me,” designed to create summaries of essential points discussed during video calls.

Instead of providing a verbatim transcription, this feature leverages Gemini AI to capture significant discussion highlights in a Google Document, which will be stored in the meeting organizer’s Google Drive.

Following the meeting, the document can be automatically distributed to participants or attached to the calendar event. Additionally, it will feature links to the meeting recording and transcript, provided those functionalities are activated.

Initially, this note-taking capability will be available to Google Workspace customers utilizing the Gemini Enterprise, Gemini Education Premium, and AI Meetings & Messaging add-ons. Currently, its application is restricted to the English language and is limited to meetings conducted on computers or laptops.

Last year, the technology company revealed its intention to integrate generative AI into a broader range of services, and it has actively incorporated AI features into its hardware and software since that time. The Gemini AI assistant is being integrated into both Android and Workspace applications.

As always, the effectiveness of these features may differ based on the performance and accuracy of the AI. The memory of Google’s AI Overviews suggesting unconventional ideas, such as eating glue pizza, will likely persist as a reminder of the challenges faced in this domain.
