Speed and Smoothness Take Center Stage
One of the most immediate improvements in beta 6 is faster app launch animations. Apple significantly shortened the transition between tapping an icon and an app opening, creating a perceptibly “snappier” feel across the system. While app content loading remains dependent on background processes, the streamlined animation reminiscent of iPadOS’s genie effect reduces perceived wait times. Analysts suggest this optimizes the Liquid Glass experience, aligning its fluid aesthetics with tangible responsiveness.
Camera Controversy Resolved
Beta 6 reverts a polarizing Camera app change introduced earlier in the iOS 26 cycle. Previous betas had altered the swipe gesture for switching modes (e.g., from Photo to Video), frustrating longtime users. Apple reinstated the original, dial-like swipe direction after widespread feedback. “The new way didn’t map to muscle memory at all,” noted mobile journalist Tom Pritchard.

A revamped onboarding sequence greets beta testers post-update, showcasing iOS 26’s marquee features like Liquid Glass, redesigned icons, and improved search.
