Elon Musk found that progress halts when he dismisses the whole Tesla supercharger staff. He therefore rehired them.
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, recently took a controversial decision to lay off more than 500 employees of the Supercharger team.
This department is the heart of Tesla and growing at a fast pace; this decision is part of broader restructuring efforts to scale down costs. This would further slow down the progress of this department, affecting Tesla’s expansion plans into the charging network.
After the reductions in force Musk turned around and began to rehire some of the employees, including North American freight director Max de Zegher. This appeared to signal either a change in strategy or a recognition of the value of the team. Musk announced a major $500 million investment focused on improvements to and expansion of the Supercharger network. This was not only a relief but also sent a message-it is still going to move on to new opportunities despite the recent layoffs.
