3 Hidden Android Phone Tricks You Should Turn On in 2026

Android 15, 16 and 17 quietly added tools that can improve privacy, security and everyday phone use.

Android has quietly packed more useful controls into recent updates, especially around privacy and security. Some are buried deep enough that many users may never notice them.

1. Private Space hides your sensitive apps

If your phone runs Android 15 or newer, Private Space creates a separate locked area for apps you don’t want sitting openly on your phone. You can put banking, messaging or other sensitive apps there, then hide the entire space when locked. Go to Settings → Security & privacy → Private space to set it up.

2. Identity Check can block thieves using your PIN

This is one of Android’s more useful anti-theft tools. When you’re outside trusted locations, Identity Check can require biometric authentication for sensitive actions, including changing your screen lock, accessing saved passwords or turning off theft protection. Find it under Settings → Google → All services → Theft protection → Identity Check on supported devices.

3. Give apps temporary access to your precise location

Android 17 adds a more controlled approach to location sharing. For supported apps, you can provide precise location temporarily while the app is being used instead of leaving broader access enabled. That’s particularly useful for apps that only need your location for a quick task.

The interesting shift is that Android’s newest “hidden” tricks aren’t just cosmetic. Google is increasingly putting privacy controls directly into the operating system, giving users more ways to decide what apps can access — and what happens if the phone falls into the wrong hands.
