Turn on Back Tap in a few steps
If your iPhone supports Back Tap, you can trigger actions by tapping the back of the phone two or three times.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Accessibility.
- Select Touch.
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Back Tap.
- Choose Double Tap or Triple Tap.
- Pick the action you want.
For example:
- Double Tap → Screenshot
- Triple Tap → Lock Screen (if available on your version of iOS) or another shortcut you prefer.
What else can it do?
Back Tap can also open the Camera, turn on the Flashlight, launch Siri, mute the phone, open the Control Center, or run custom shortcuts. Think of it as adding an extra button without changing your iPhone.
A simple example: if you’re reading something funny in a chat, just double-tap the back instead of pressing the side and volume buttons together to take a screenshot.
Keep in mind that Back Tap works best without very thick phone cases, and accidental taps can happen if you’re constantly handling your phone. Even so, once you get used to it, it’s one of those hidden iPhone features that quickly becomes part of your daily routine.
