10 Ways to Improve Your iPhone Battery Life Without Changing How You Use It

Small settings can make a noticeable difference in how quickly your iPhone battery runs down.

Your iPhone battery can disappear faster than expected because of a mix of screen brightness, background activity, location services, weak network connections and demanding apps. You do not have to turn everything off to improve battery life. A few targeted changes can help.

1. Turn on Auto-Brightness

A bright screen is one of the easiest ways to use more power. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size and make sure Auto-Brightness is enabled.

Your iPhone can then adjust the screen brightness depending on your surroundings.

2. Use Low Power Mode when needed

Settings > Battery > Low Power Mode can reduce background activity and other power-hungry tasks.

It is especially useful when you know you will be away from a charger for several hours.

3. Check which apps are draining your battery

Go to Settings > Battery to see which apps have been using the most battery.

If an app you rarely use is consuming a surprising amount of power, consider limiting its background activity or removing it.

4. Reduce unnecessary notifications

Every notification can wake the screen and interrupt what your phone is doing. Turn off notifications for apps that do not need your immediate attention.

5. Limit Background App Refresh

Go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh. You can disable it for apps that do not need to constantly update in the background.

For example, a game probably does not need to refresh itself when you are not playing it.

6. Review Location Services

Some apps may request your location even when you are not actively using them. Check Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services and change unnecessary apps to a less frequent location permission where appropriate.

7. Use Wi-Fi when it makes sense

When cellular coverage is weak, your iPhone may work harder to maintain a connection. If you are somewhere with reliable Wi-Fi, connecting to it can be a better option.

8. Keep iOS and apps updated

Software updates can include improvements to performance and power management. Keeping your iPhone and frequently used apps reasonably up to date is a simple maintenance habit.

9. Avoid extreme heat

Heat is particularly unfriendly to lithium-ion batteries. Avoid leaving your iPhone in direct sunlight or inside a hot car, especially while charging or performing demanding tasks.

10. Check your battery health

Go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging. If the battery’s maximum capacity has significantly declined, settings alone may not restore the battery life you remember from when the iPhone was new.

The goal is not to make your iPhone do less. It is to stop spending battery power on things you do not actually need. Start with the settings that match your own usage, then check the Battery section again to see whether your habits have changed the results.
