10 Hidden iPhone Settings That Are Actually Worth Changing

Small settings, surprisingly useful results

Your iPhone has settings that can quietly change how you use it every day. Some are buried several taps deep, which is probably why many people never touch them.

1. Turn off unnecessary location access

Go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services and check which apps can access your location. Some apps don’t need constant access. Choosing While Using the App can give you more control.

2. Stop apps from tracking you

Under Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking, you can control whether apps are allowed to ask to track your activity across other companies’ apps and websites.

3. Reduce notification interruptions

Settings → Notifications → Scheduled Summary can group less-important notifications for delivery later. This is useful if your phone constantly lights up because of shopping apps, games, or social media.

4. Make your keyboard faster

In Settings → General → Keyboard, explore features such as Text Replacement. You can create shortcuts for phrases you type repeatedly.

For example, typing addr could expand into your full address.

5. Check which apps use your microphone

Go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone. You can switch off microphone access for apps that don’t actually need it.

6. Protect your Control Center

Check Settings → Face ID & Passcode and review what can be accessed while your iPhone is locked. Disabling unnecessary lock-screen access can prevent someone holding your phone from changing certain settings.

7. See what is draining your battery

Settings → Battery shows which apps and activities are consuming the most power. Don’t automatically blame the battery itself; sometimes one app is the real culprit.

8. Silence unknown callers

If available on your iPhone, Phone settings include controls for handling calls from unknown numbers. This can be useful if spam calls are becoming a daily annoyance.

9. Make your iPhone easier to use with Back Tap

Go to Settings → Accessibility → Touch → Back Tap. You can assign actions to a double or triple tap on the back of the iPhone.

10. Review app permissions regularly

Privacy settings aren’t something you should check once and forget. Apps change, your habits change, and an app that needed access months ago may no longer need it.

The useful part isn’t changing every setting. It’s knowing what your iPhone is allowed to do in the background—and deciding whether you actually want it to.
