Apple’s Next iPhone May Have No Edges. So Why Do Some People Say It Is in Trouble?
Leaks promise a phone with no borders, but analysts disagree on how much of it is possible.
Apple has only just launched the iPhone 18 Pro, yet people are already talking about a phone a year away. The reason is simple: the iPhone turns 20 in 2027.
Rumours say Apple may skip the name iPhone 19 and call it the iPhone 20. It did something like this in 2017, when it jumped from the iPhone 8 to the iPhone X, the phone that changed how iPhones look.
A Screen With No Edges
The biggest change since 2017
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says the glass will curve around all the edges, and the borders will be thinner. Samsung is reportedly making the screen. Leakers say the screens may grow to 6.41 and 6.96 inches, up from 6.3 and 6.9 today. Some even say the buttons will become touch spots that buzz a little, so they still feel real.
Not Everyone Agrees
Some reports say the dream is shrinking
In August, a Jefferies analyst said the all-glass iPhone was cancelled. Gurman replied that the glass redesign is still on track. Other reports say Apple wanted a full glass body, but it was too hard, so a metal band may sit around the middle.
Face ID is another problem. Analyst Ross Young says hiding it under the screen will not be ready in 2027. A phone with no hole at all may wait until 2030.
What to Watch
A dream phone or a smart compromise?
None of this is confirmed, and Apple has said nothing. But the most exciting leaks are also the hardest to build. The real question may not be what Apple wants to make, but how much of it can reach shops in 2027.
