1. Lock a single chat
You don’t have to lock your entire WhatsApp account just to hide one conversation.
Open the chat, tap the person’s name or group name, then look for Chat Lock. Once enabled, the conversation moves into a protected folder that requires your device authentication to open.
It’s useful for conversations you don’t want casually visible when someone borrows your phone.
2. Search messages by date
Trying to find something from months ago can feel like scrolling through digital archaeology.
Inside a chat, tap Search, then select the calendar icon if it appears. Pick the date you remember, and WhatsApp can jump you toward messages from that day.
3. Send a voice message that disappears
Voice messages don’t always need to live in a chat forever. WhatsApp supports View Once voice messages.
When recording a voice message, look for the “1” icon before sending. The recipient can listen to it once, after which it disappears from the chat.
4. Share your live location temporarily
Instead of repeatedly texting someone your location, open a chat → Attach/+ → Location → Share live location.
You can choose a limited sharing period. It’s particularly handy when someone is trying to find you while you’re moving around.
5. Silence calls from unknown numbers
Random WhatsApp calls can be seriously annoying.
Go to Settings → Privacy → Calls → Silence unknown callers. Calls from unknown numbers won’t ring normally, although they’ll still appear in your call list.
6. Keep a message from disappearing
If someone sends a disappearing message that you genuinely need later, WhatsApp can allow certain messages to be Kept.
Long-press the message and look for Keep or the bookmark-style option. Availability can depend on the chat’s disappearing-message settings.
The trick with WhatsApp isn’t knowing every feature. It’s knowing where the useful ones are hiding.
