Forget the Wi-Fi Password? Find It in Seconds on Windows

Windows already saved the password — you just need to know where to look.

If your Windows PC is already connected to Wi-Fi, you may not need to guess the password or turn your router upside down looking for the sticker. Windows can display the saved Wi-Fi password through its network settings.

The quickest way on Windows 11

If you’re connected to the network right now:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select Network & internet.
  3. Click Wi-Fi.
  4. Open the properties for the connected network.
  5. Look for the option to view the Wi-Fi password.
  6. Windows may require you to confirm your identity before revealing it.

The exact wording or location can vary slightly between Windows versions, so don’t panic if your screen looks a little different.

Another method if you prefer the classic interface

Windows also provides a traditional route through network settings:

  1. Open Control Panel.
  2. Go to Network and Internet → Network and Sharing Center.
  3. Select your current Wi-Fi connection.
  4. Click Wireless Properties.
  5. Open the Security tab.
  6. Check Show characters.

The password should then appear in the Network security key field.

Think of it like your phone remembering a restaurant’s Wi-Fi password. You don’t type it every time you visit—the device stores it so you can reconnect automatically. Windows works similarly.

One important thing

You can only reveal a password that Windows has actually saved. If the computer has never connected to that network, there won’t be a stored password to display.

Also, treat the password like any other account credential. Don’t share it publicly just because Windows makes it easy to retrieve.
