20 Secret Phone Codes for iPhone and Android That Are Actually Useful

Hidden dialer codes can check your phone, network, hardware and more — but not every code works on every device.

Your phone’s dialer can sometimes act like a hidden toolbox. Type a special code and you may see network information, hardware tests, device identifiers or call settings without installing another app.

10 useful iPhone codes

Enter these in the Phone app:

  1. *#06# — Displays your IMEI.
  2. *#21# — Checks certain call-forwarding status information.
  3. *#30# — Checks caller-ID presentation status.
  4. *#31# — Checks caller-ID restriction status.
  5. *#33# — Checks call-barring status.
  6. *#43# — Checks call-waiting status.
  7. *#61# — Checks forwarding when unanswered.
  8. *#62# — Checks forwarding when unreachable.
  9. *#67# — Checks forwarding when busy.
  10. *3001#12345#* — Opens iPhone Field Test Mode on supported versions, exposing cellular/network information.

The important catch: several of these are carrier-dependent, so an error does not necessarily mean something is wrong with your iPhone. Apple also notes that carrier support affects some phone features.

10 Android codes worth knowing

Android is more complicated because manufacturers decide which codes remain available.

  1. *#06# — IMEI.
  2. *#*#4636#*#* — Phone, battery and usage information on supported devices.
  3. *#0*# — Samsung hardware diagnostic menu.
  4. *#0011# — Samsung service/network information.
  5. *#0228# — Samsung battery information on supported models.
  6. *#1234# — Samsung software/firmware information.
  7. *#0808# — Samsung USB configuration menu on supported models.
  8. *#2663# — Samsung firmware/touch-related information.
  9. *#*#232338#*#* — Wi-Fi hardware/MAC information on some Android phones.
  10. *#*#2664#*#* — Touchscreen test on some Android devices.

Samsung community documentation confirms several of these diagnostic codes, including *#0*#, *#0011#, *#0228#, and *#1234#.

For example, if you are buying a used Samsung and want to check whether the touchscreen responds across the display, the diagnostic menu can be far more useful than simply opening a random app.

One warning: don’t blindly experiment with codes that change settings, reset data or enter advanced service menus. Some codes are disabled on newer phones, and Samsung users have reported differences between models and software versions.
