5 Mistakes People Still Make With Their Phones That Need to Stop
Small daily habits can reduce battery life, slow performance, weaken security, and even put your personal data at risk.
1. Ignoring software updates
Many people ignore their phone updates for weeks or months at a time. The thing is, while some updates do bring exciting new features, many of them actually focus on improving security by fixing vulnerabilities that could put you at risk, as well as on improving battery performance and ensuring apps run as smoothly as possible.
2. Filling storage until it’s almost full
While it is a matter of debate as to just how much space a phone truly needs, there are consensus that leaving around 15 to 20 percent free will not only help to ensure your device runs efficiently and your apps have enough space to operate, but modern smartphones are faster when they have room to work.
3. Charging the battery the wrong way
The argument has been a long-debated topic, the common consensus is that keeping your phone at full charge for the majority of the time or constantly depleting the battery completely can contribute to an accelerated battery life. Lithium ion battery’s prefer to remain in the vicinity of the range between about 20 percent and 80 percent. That said occasional full charges do not significantly harm batteries today.
4. Installing every app you find
We have all found a nifty new application we simply have to install at some point. However, there are many apps running constantly in the background and many apps will ask for and retain permissions which may seem unnecessary to you but not to developers. If an app is not frequently used, it’s advisable to get rid of it, and don’t forget to manage your location, camera, photo and microphone access from your settings.
5. Never backing up your data
This may be a fairly obvious one, but it is still remarkably prevalent in the world today. Unfortunately, smartphones can be lost or stolen at a moment’s notice. Data back-ups in cloud services or via a desktop PC mean years’ worth of data cannot be lost when your phone is gone.
